Two line themes, page 1r

It is highly arguable that it is deceptive to study vords in isolation. I have been applying a vord template to vords to learn about their internal structure, but I have started considering them in context, looking instead at lines of text.

What this reveals is that certain lines have a distinct concern for certain aspects of vord formation.

As we follow the text with the vord template we find that in some lines we linger on particular parts of the template. We can usually identify this as one of the compartments: A, B or C.

That is, in some lines we find a concentration or clustering of vord elements, usually concerning certain glyph combinations.

I have described these lines as having themes.

* * *

Beginning at page 1r, the first line that behaves like this is line 4:

ooiin.oteey.oteos.roloty.cthar.daiin.otaiin.or.okan-

Here we find a sudden cluster of vords beginning with [o-].

When we look at the paragraph as a whole, and mark vords beginning [o-] this stands out:

fachys.ykal.ar.ataiin.shol.shory.cthres.y.kor.sholdy- sory.ckhar.or.y.kair.chtaiin.shar.are.cthar.cthar.dan- syaiir.sheky.or.ykaiin.shod.cthoary.cthes.daraiin.sa- ooiin.oteey.oteos.roloty.cthar.daiin.otaiin.or.okan- dair.y.chear.cthaiin.cphar.cfhaiin=
ydaraishy=

The actual counts are:

Line 1 = 0
Line 2 = 1
Line 3 = 1
Line 4 = 5
Line 5 = 0
Line 6 = 0

So it is clear that line 4 has a particular concern for this formation [o-] in a way the urrounding lines do not.

Looking closer, the relevant vords in the line are:

ooiin
oteey
oteos
otaiin
or
okan

Now we see that the actual concern of the line is the form o + gallows (t or k) and primarily the combination ot-.

Studying these vords in terms of our paradigm, we can see – visually – that these vords are concerned with a particular part of vord formation.

The theme of line 4 is the prefix-stem combination [o + gallows] – in terms of compartments A+B.

* * *

We encounter another line with a pronounced theme on page 1r, line 15:

daiin.shckhey.ckeor.chor.shey.kol.chol.chol.kor.chal-

There is a ditinct cluster of vords:

ckeor
chor
kol
chol
chol
kor
chal

We can see the cluster in context:

oksho.kshoy.otairin.oteol.okan.shodain.sckhey.daiin- shoy.ckhey.kodaiin.cphy.cphodaiils.cthey.she.oldain.d- dain.oiin.chol.odaiin.chodain.chdy.okain.dan.cthy.kod- daiin.shckhey.ckeor.chor.shey.kol.chol.chol.kor.chal- sho.chol.shodan.kshy.kchy.dor.chodaiin.sho.kchom- ycho.tchey.chokain.sheo.pshol.dydyd.cthy.daicthy-

And to labour the point, the counts are:

Line 12 = 0
Line 13 = 0
Line 14 = 1
Line 15 = 6
Line 16 = 1
Line 17 = 0
Line 18 = 0

All of these vords are constructed from the glyphs in the red box below:

Unlike our first case, this line concerns the combinations of compartment B + C, and in compartment C specifically the option of [l] or [r] as the ending.

* * *

The important observation in cases like these is that it is not so much a vord that is at issue, but rather one of the vord-creation processes. These lines rehearse certain possible glyph combinations between the compartments of our template.
